Ants

There are over 700 different species of ants in Australia; however, most of these don’t cause any problems. A typical ant colony has over thousands of ants divided into workers, soldiers and the single queen ant. Fertilised eggs produce female ants which include the queens, workers and soldiers, while the unfertilized eggs produce the male ants. The worker ants are generally the ants we see scrounging for food, building the nests and taking care of the eggs and pupae.
The ant body is anatomically divided into three main parts: the head, thorax and abdomen. The size of ants range from two to twenty-five millimetres and their colour may vary from red to brown or black. The head has biting jaws, two antennas with chemical and tactile sensitivity, along with a pair of compound eyes.
Ants undergo complete metamorphosis, passing through a sequence of four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adulthood. The winged female and male engage in mating, and the male invariably dies within forty-eight hours of mating. The queen ant requires fertilization only once and after that it can lay eggs for its entire life. An egg hatches into a worm-shaped larva with no eyes or legs. A larva grows rapidly and moults between sizes.
Invasion of ants is more of a nuisance rather than a major health issue, their nests are usually found behind walls and doors, furniture, appliances, kitchens and cabinets.
The control of ants can be done by installing baits and by spraying pesticides. Chambers Pest Control brings in safe and reliable solutions for ant control in Perth. Ant control techniques are decided to depend on the type of ants, food preferences, and nest location. A permanent solution for ant infestation is difficult and the ants might soon create a colony again. Hence, in order to resolve the problem of ants permanently, professional pest control services are recommended.
